Compassion Projects

Compassion Projects

Serving our fellow humans, without expecting anything in return, is a fundamental teaching in yoga, Karma Yoga - the yoga of action, as well as most spiritual traditions. We join together as a community in support and service of these amazing organizations:

Free the Girls

Free the Girls is a non-profit organization providing job opportunities to women rescued from sex-trafficking. Second-hand clothing is a profitable market in many countries around the world. Bras are usually sought after items and selling them provides a sustainable, living wage and a new life for these women.

Yoga Sanctuary partners with Free the Girls and you help our efforts by dropping off new and gently used bras. We send your bras to FTG and they help women around the globe learn how to set up a business selling the bras.

Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

We are honored to support the Employees and Volunteers at the GMCN offering free yoga onsite and reduced class prices at Yoga Sanctuary. Adults who are cared for are better able to care for families and children in stressful times. We appreciate and value your tax-deductible monetary donations in support of this necessary neighborhood resource.

About the Nursery
As a trusted resource for families, the Nursery focuses on prevention by offering free, voluntary services for parents who face barriers such as unemployment, homelessness, medical or mental health concerns, poverty, domestic violence, or other difficult situations.  We help strengthen families by connecting them to resources, caring for their children during difficult times, and setting goals that increase self-sufficiency and make the relationship between the parent and child stronger.

Core services include:

  • 24 hour crisis helpline
  • Crisis counseling
  • Community referrals
  • Parent education classes and support groups
  • Clinical home visiting and mental health program
  • Overnight residential care for parents to place their children voluntarily – newborn through age six – for up to three nights while they address their crisis

Diversity
Fostering an inclusive culture is a core value at the Nursery, and we are committed to helping employees and clients from all backgrounds and life experiences feel welcome, respected, and valued. We invite parents to come as they are, courageously share their story, and trust that we will work together to make things better.

Loaves and Fishes

Yoga Sanctuary partners with the Solomon's Porch Community to prepare and serve a meal for hundreds of under-resourced people in the Seward Neighborhood through Loaves and Fishes.  Our intention is to interact and love others with dignity as we offer friendship and share resources with our fellow humans. We collect money and food donations every other month and invite you to join in, and give your time, energy and resources in whatever capacity works for you. All efforts are appreciated.

Dates: 4th Tuesday of odd months (Jan, March, May, July, Sept, Nov)
Place: Holy Rosary Church - 2424 18th Ave S, Mpls, MN
Time: Food prep 2:30-4:45  &  Serve  4:45-6:45
